Culture Days 2011 – September 30th – October 2nd

St. Marys Storytelling is excited to join forces this Culture Days with the newly formed St. Marys Cultural Alliance. We will be at the Farmers Market from 10am to noon on Saturday, October 1st and then at the 4 corners of Wellington & Queen Streets, right by the 4 banks, from noon to 4pm.

What is Culture Days?

Culture Days is a collaborative, grassroots Canada-wide movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.

The 2011 Culture Days event weekend will take place in every province and territory September 30, October 1 – 2, 2011 and is expected to see thousands of communities take part.

The first annual Canada-wide Culture Days celebration was held in September 2010, over three days, and featured more than 4,500 free activities in more than 700 Canadian cities and towns of all sizes and, by all accounts, was a great success.

Culture Days feature free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate ―behind the scenes,‖ to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, and designers at work in their community.

So what are we doing? We are doing Paper Trails Storytelling, which we have done successfully in the past, as well as a new project called Wall to Wall Art. You can see what we are aiming to accomplish by viewing our Culture Days Teaser Video!

This community-based interactive art  installation is open to people of ALL AGES. We will have different mediums available depending on age and abilities, from small Post It Note art and stories, to large 4×8 sheets of plywood! Please stop by and contribute to our ‘murals’ of stories and pictures.

If you are a high school student in need of some volunteer hours, are creatively inclined and like working with people of all ages, we encourage you to get involved. Please call Carol at 519-229-6468 or email events at stmarysstorytelling dot org.  If you are an artist, or are creative in any way, and have an hour or two to spare on Saturday, October 1st, we would also love to hear from you!

We would love to create a genuine ‘Street Art’ feel with this project, so we’d actively welcome any local musicians who would be interested in busking.

Here’s our event poster below. Hope to see you then!
